Topic:             Business Continuity Planning

Every business faces minor downtimes, and major unknowns; hence it is important to have plans in place which guarantee business contingency. Before the September 2001 attack on America quite a few business people said that they saw BCP as an inefficient use of resources, i.e. an expenditure which does not bring any return on investments. But statistics tell a different story, and events like 9-11 serve as drastic reminders that it is vital for every company to have plans in place to ensure business continuity, and the continuity of our suppliers and logistics - especially as globalization and our interdependence continues to grow. Business Continuity Plans cost relatively little in comparison what the company could potentially lose in a major incident. Therefore it seems highly prudent that organizations of all sizes seriously research and develop a plausible and efficient BCP.

David Boenitz – Dir of Business Planning, San Diego Regional Airport Authority

David Boenitz, Director of Business Planning, has been at the Airport Authority for over 8 years.  His responsibilities include organizational improvement and business emergency preparedness.  He oversees the Authority’s Business Continuity Plan which ensures that all business functions within the Authority are prepared for and able to respond, recover and resume day to day operation as effectively and efficiently as possible.  As an integral part of the community and a major travel link, it is essential the SDIA and SDCRAA be fully operational at all times.  The Business Continuity Plan and the Airport’s Emergency Plan are two important parts to make that happen.

Richard Sandoval - General Manager, DoubleTree Hotel San Diego/Del Mar

Richard Sandoval is a hotel General Manager with a history of taking underperforming assets and making them viable again.  Combining 22 years of industry experience with knowledge gained from assisting in the assumption of 11 properties, he combines the ability to reposition a hotel while creating operating efficiencies that drive returns and additional dollars at exit for ownership.  Mr. Sandoval started his hotel career with DoubleTree Hotels in 1989 and currently is the General Manager at the DoubleTree Del Mar. Mr. Sandoval holds board positions, with the Carmel Valley Owners Association and the CVB North County Board of Directors.  Mr. Sandoval has also been recognized by both the local Fire Department and San Diego Police Northwest Division for his work in the community.

Frank Costa – Portfolio Manager-Support Services Sempra Energy, San Diego Gas & Electric and Southern California Gas Company.

Frank has over 30 years of travel industry experience.  Prior to joining Sempra, he owned and operated a wholesale travel marketing firm and created travel-related loyalty programs for several national accounts including Price Club, Sprint and GNC.
He produced and hosted “The Travel Insiders”, a weekly local radio show between 1997 and 2004.
Frank has won numerous travel related recognitions including the 2004 “Innovation and Integrity in Travel” award from The American Society of Travel Agents.  He has served on several travel industry advisory boards including Amadeus, American Express, Continental Airlines, Lowestfare.com, GEM-Cruiselink, Vacation.com and SDBTA.
